This contribution belongs to a series of investigations that the author has devoted in the last years to the invariants in the nonabelian tensor square \(G\otimes G\) of a finite group \(G\). For instance, he proved [in J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212, No. 7, 1840-1848 (2008; Zbl 1187.20050)] that we may control the exponent of \(G\otimes G\) by a function depending only on the exponent of \(G\). Now he continues those investigations with a special attention to powerful \(p\)-groups in Theorem 2.4, proving that the exponent of \([\nu(G),\nu(G)]\) divides that of \(G\), where \(\nu(G)\) is a well-known group, which is related to the study of \(G\otimes G\). Actually he proves a more technical property for \(G\otimes G\) in Theorem 2.2, related to a contribution of \textit{A. Lubotzky} and \textit{A. Mann} [in J. Algebra 105, 484-505 (1987; Zbl 0626.20010)]. Among other results, there are some interesting bounds on \(|[\nu(G),\nu(G)]|\), \(|G\otimes G|\) and on the Schur multiplier of \(G\) in the rest of the paper.
