The author uses general one-step methods in order to analyse a generalized Hopf bifurcation for parameter dependent continuous dynamical systems. He observes safe regions, i.e., the dynamics provided by one-step methods qualitatively coincide with the dynamics of the original system and regions of spurious behavior. Thus, he shows that such methods can shift a Hopf bifurcation and turn it into a generalized Neimark-Sacker one. A numerical example is carried out.
