    Let \({\mathcal D}\) denote the collection of dyadic subintervals of the unit circle \(\mathbb T\), and \((h_I)_{I \in {\mathcal D}}\) be the Haar basis of \(L^2({\mathbb T})\). For \(I \in {\mathcal D}\) and \(\phi \in L^2({\mathbb T})\), let \(\phi_I\) denote the formal Haar coefficient \(\int_I \phi (t) h_I (t)dt\). We say that \(\phi\) belongs to dyadic BMO space \(BMO^d ({\mathbb T})\) if \[ \sup_{I \in {\mathcal D}} \left( \frac{1}{| I |} \int_I | \phi (t) - m_I \phi |^2 dt \right)^{1/2} < \infty, \] where \(m_I \phi = \frac{1}{| I |}\int_I \phi (t) dt\). Then the following are equivalent: (1) \(\phi \in BMO^d ({\mathbb T})\). (2) \(\phi\) satisfies the Carleson condition \[ \sup_{I \in {\mathcal D}} \left( \frac{1}{| I |} \sum_{J \in {\mathcal D}, J \subset I} | \phi_J |^2 \right)^{1/2} < \infty. \] (3) The paraproduct \( \pi_{\phi}f = \sum_{I \in {\mathcal D}} \phi_I (m_I f ) h_I \) is bounded on \(L^2\). Furthermore we know that \(BMO^d ({\mathbb T})\) is the dual space of the dyadic Hardy space \(H^1_d ({\mathbb T})\). The authors prove that in the operator valued case, these characterizations are in general no longer equivalent. About operator valued BMO, see \textit{T. Mei} [Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 881, 64 p. (2007; Zbl 1138.46038)].
