For a Lorentzian manifold compactness implies disturbance of causality. The present paper supports this general expectation by exact theorems. A Lorentzian manifold \((M,g)\) here is assumed to be \(C^\infty\), connected, and time-oriented. Every compact \((M,g)\) which admits a time-like conformal Killing vector field is shown to be totally vicious, i.e., the past and the future of any point is the whole of \(M\). Every compact \((M,g)\) conformal to a static spacetime is geodesically connected by causal geodesics and admits a time-like closed geodesic.
