In this note we give an explicit expression to the zonal spherical functions on the quantum homogeneous space \(\text{SU}_ q(n+1)/\text{SU}_ q(n)\). Let \(A(G)\) be the coordinate ring of the quantum group \(G=\text{SU}_ q(n+1)\). For a given dominant integral weight \(\Lambda\), one can realize the irreducible \(A(G)\)-comodule \(V_{\Lambda}\) with highest weight \(\Lambda\) as a space of relative invariants in \(A(G)\) with respect to the Borel subgroup. It turns out that \(V_{\Lambda}\) is of class 1 relative to the quantum subgroup \(K=\text{SU}_ q(n)\) if and only if \(\Lambda\) is of the form \(\Lambda =\ell \Lambda_ 1+m\Lambda_ n\) for some \(\ell,m\in {\mathbb{N}}\), where \(\Lambda_ k\) are the fundamental weights. For such a representation \(V_{\Lambda}\) we determine the zonal spherical function explicitly in terms of the little \(q\)-Jacobi polynomials.
