The solvability of some linear and nonlinear two-point boundary value problems (BVPs) in differential algebraic equations (DAEs) is considered. Firstly, linear DAEs, (1) \(Ax'+Bx=q\) where A and B are continuous matrix functions are considered, and some conditions for the unique solvability of linear BVPs are given. In this analysis the idea of transferability plays an important role because only transferable DAEs lead to well-posed BVPs. It must be recalled that the system (1) may be transferred into the state variables if its solution can be written in the form: \(x=Cu+Dq\), \(u'=Hu+Kq\) where C,D,H,K depend only on A and B. Next the above results are extended to nonlinear DAEs: \(f(x',x,t)=0\) where \(f_{x'}\) has a nontrivial constant or smooth time-varying nullspace. Finally, it is shown that some regularizations of non transferable DAEs can be studied in the framework of singular perturbation problems.
