Let \(L_ p= L_ p([ 0,1],m)\) be the Banach space of \(p\)-integrable functions defined on \([0,1]\); \(1\leq p<\infty\). The Lebesgue measure on \([0,1]\) is denoted by \(m\). \({\mathcal N}\) stands for the continuous \(L_ p\)- nest consisting of the subspaces \(N_ t=\{ f\in L_ p\mid P_{[t,1]} f=0\}\) for each \(t\in [0,1]\); here \(P_ A f=f\chi_ A\) and \(\chi_ A\) is the characteristic function of a set \(A\). For any strictly increasing function \(\varphi\) from \([0,1]\) onto \([0,1]\), \({\mathcal M}(\varphi)\) denotes the continuous \(L_ p\)-nest consisting of the subspaces \(M_ t(\varphi)= \{f\in L_ p\mid P_{[\varphi (t),1]} f=0\}\) for each \(t\) in \([0,1]\). The main result of this paper concerns the problem of when there exists an index-preserving isometry between \({\mathcal M}(\varphi)\) and \({\mathcal N}\) i.e. when does there exist an isometry \(T: L_ p\to L_ p\) such that \(T(M_ t (\varphi))= N_ t\) for all \(t\) in \([0,1]\). New information about unitary equivalence in the case \(p=2\) is provided by the last theorem of the note. Concisely written, the paper reads well and constitutes a valuable contribution to the problem of nests in the Lebesgue spaces \(L_ p\), where \(1\leq p<\infty\).
