The authors dwell on varieties of associative algebras over a field of characteristic zero and their quantitative invariants. A classification of minimal varieties is proposed which confirms the Drensky conjecture [see \textit{V. S. Drensky}, Serdica 13, 320-332 (1987; Zbl 0658.16013); ibid. 14, No. 1, 20-27 (1988; Zbl 0661.16012)].
