The subject of the paper is the distribution of stress and displacement in an elastic-plastic spherical vessel exposed to internal pressure. It is shown, using an inverse procedure, that one can allow for arbitrary nonlinear hardening with little numerical effort. For one particular hardening law, the results are discussed in detail. Analytical and numerical results are presented.
