A product space \(X\times Y\) is rectangular if every finite cozero cover has a \(\sigma\)-locally finite refinement each member of which is the product of two cozero sets. Let \(\mathcal S(X)\) consist of all closed \(E\subset X\) which are homeomorphic to a stationary subset of some regular uncountable cardinal. Suppose \(X\) is monotonically normal. For \(Y\) compact then \(X\times Y\) is normal (resp orthocompact) if and only if \(E\times Y\) is normal (resp orthocompact and \(X\) is orthocompact) for each \(E\in\mathcal S(X)\). If \(X\) is also orthocompact and \(Y\) is paracompact and \(\mathbb{DC}\)-like (a condition involving Telgársky's game) then \(X\times Y\) is normal and rectangular if and only if \(E\times Y\) is normal and rectangular for each \(E\in\mathcal S(X)\); again there is a version involving orthocompactness of \(X\times Y\). Products with almost discrete and with ordinal factors are also considered.
