The author proposes a new extension of sampling operators consisting of using the fractional average value in an $n$-dimensional parallelepiped that substitutes the sample value. A fractional type multivariate sampling operator based on a suitable kernel function is defined using the Riemann-Liouville fractional integral operator. Convergence results for such operators in \(C(\mathbb R^n)\) and Orlicz spaces are given and multivariate Voronovskaya-type asymptotic formulas are derived based on Euler-beta functions. In the final part the accuracy, pertinency and efficiency of the operators are illustrated through a couple of graphical and numerical results.
