For an algebra \(A\) over a field \(k\) the Hochschild cohomology ring \(HH^*(A)=\bigoplus_{i\geq 0}\text{Ext}^i_{A^e}(A,A)\) is a graded \(k\)-algebra with the multiplication determined by the Yoneda product. Let \(k\) be an algebraically closed field, \(\text{char }k=p\), \(G\) a finite group and \(B\) a block of \(kG\) with cyclic defect group \(C_{p^n}\) and inertial index \(e\). Using as a main tool the isomorphism \(HH^*(B)\approx HH^*(kC_{p^n}\times C_e)\) constructed in the paper the author describes the even Hochschild cohomology ring \(HH^{\text{ev}}(B)\) of \(B\) by means of generators and relations and shows that blocks \(B\) and \(B'\) have the same defect and the same number of modular irreducible characters if and only if \(HH^*(B)\approx HH^*(B')\). This result signifies that \(HH^*(B)\) is uniquely determined by the inertial index \(e\) and the exceptional multiplicity of the corresponding Brauer tree. Together with \textit{R. Rickard}'s characterization of derived equivalence for Brauer tree algebras [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 61, No. 3, 303-317 (1989; Zbl 0685.16016)] it implies that two blocks \(B\) and \(B'\) are derived equivalent if and only if \(HH^*(B)\approx HH^*(B')\) as graded \(k\)-algebras.
