The authors consider the microwave heating of one- and two-dimensional slabs, subject to linear feedback control. This paper is organized as follows: Section 1 and Section 5 list the preliminary results to this problem and some remarks on new results of this paper, respectively. In Section 2, the governing equations are detailed. In Section 3, the semianalytical method of \textit{T. R. Marchant} and \textit{B. Liu} [J. Eng. Math. 33, No. 3, 219--236 (1998; Zbl 0917.35141); IMA J. Appl. Math. 62, No. 2, 137--166 (1999; Zbl 0940.35190)] is briefly presented. In Section 4, the local stability analysis of the semianalytical model is presented. Hopf bifurcation lines are drawn for several examples and compared with the occurrence of limit-cycles found numerically. Several different heating scenarios are considered, including cases for which limit-cycles occur, and an excellent comparison is obtained between the semianalytical model and numerical solutions of the governing equations. Finally, there are two appendices. In Appendix A, the numerical scheme used for the governing equations is detailed. Appendix B lists some integrals needed for the semianalytical solutions.
