This paper is mainly concerned with the approximation of the solution of an elliptic problem on a bounded polygonal domain in two dimensions. Basic ingredients are some associated mixed and projection nonconforming element methods for which equivalence of the formulations, existence, uniqueness and uniform convergence of the approximated solutions are proved. Moreover, the error estimate is given as well as properties of discrete compactness and preconditioning methods. Only theoretical studies are developed without any numerical experiments.
