Among the infinite dimensional compacta there are a) the \(C\)-compacta and b) the weakly-infinite-dimensional compacta. Moreover the cohomology dimension \(\dim_ GX\) is defined by using Čech cohomology and the stable cohomotopy dimension \(\dim_ sX\) by using the spectrum \(\Omega^ \infty\Sigma^ \infty S^ 0\) instead of the Eilenberg-MacLane- spectrum. The results of this paper are: (1) Suppose that \(\{C\)-compacta\}=\{weakly infinite dimensional compacta\}, then one has \(\dim X =\) \(\dim_ SX\). Since for finite-dimensional compacta this result is already known, the theorem has only to be proved for infinite dimensional compacta. This is accomplished by: Every strongly infinite dimensional compactum \(X\) (i.e. one, which is not weakly infinite dimensional) satisfies \(\dim_ sX=\infty\).
