One considers an analogue of the theorem of Stickelberger on the prime factorization of Gauss sums and on the resulting annihilators of the class group. Gauss sums are replaced by certain resolvents associated to elliptic curves, introduced by Chan and in special cases already by Abel and Jacobi. The results generalize those obtained previously by the first author and by the last author and Taylor.
