An orbit \(x_{n+1}= F(x_n)\) of a differentiable map \(F: M\to M\) on a Riemannian manifold \(M\) is called sustainable if there exists \(\delta C\) such that for all \(0< \varepsilon<\delta\) there is \(N\in\mathbb{N}\) and a `correction map' \(T\) (satisfying some technical condition) with the following properties: For any sequence \(s_n\in [-\delta,\delta]\) with \(s_n= 0\) for \(n\leq N\), \(| T(s_n)|\leq\varepsilon\) and \(\xi_n= F'((x_{n-1})\xi_{n-1}+ s_n)+ T(s_n)\in [-1,1]\) \((\xi_0= 0)\). The author investigates this property in connection with hyperbolicity of Hénon maps on \(\mathbb{C}^2\), rational maps on \(\mathbb{P}^1\) and polynomial maps on \(\mathbb{P}^2\).
