The authors generalize M. Hata and M. Yamaguti's results on a system of infinitely many difference equations and on the connection between the Takagi's nowhere differentiable function and Lebesgue's singular function [\textit{M. Hata} and \textit{M. Yamaguti}, Japan J. Appl. Math. 1, 183-199 (1984; Zbl 0604.26004)]. Especially, it is shown that for \(0<r<1\) the system: \[ f((2j+1)/2^{n+1})-(1-r)f(j/2^ n)-rf((j+1)/2^ n)=c_ n,\quad j=0,1,...,2^ n-1;\quad n=0,1,..., \] has a unique continuous solution iff \(\sum^{\infty}_{n=1}| c_ n| <\infty\). In this case the solution f is expressed in terms of a modified Schauder basis in C[0,1]. The ``if'' part and the case \(r=1/2\) are treated by Hata and Yamaguti.
