Let \(P\) be a symmetric orthogonal real \(n\times n\) matrix. A real symmetric \(n\times n\) matrix \(A\) is ortho-symmetric if \(PA\) is symmetric. Problem I. For given \(n\times m\) real matrices \(A\), \(B\) find a symmetric ortho-symmetric \(n\times n\) matrix \(X\) such that \(XA= B\). Problem II. For a given \(n\times n\) real matrix \(C\) find a matrix \(X\) satisfying Problem I such that \(\| C- X\|= \text{inf}\| C- Y\|\), where \(Y\) runs over all solutions of the Problem I and the norm is Euclidean (Frobenius norm). Criteria for the solvability of the Problems I and II are given.
