Consider a compact Riemannian manifold \(M\), endowed with a \(C^1\)-diffeomorphism \(f: M\to M\) and an invariant ergodic probability measure \(\mu\), which is supposed to be hyperbolic. Suppose that some iterate \(f^s\) of \(f\) satisfies some asymptotically uniform contraction property along the stable foliation. Then the authors establish the upper bound of a large deviations result, which quantifies the number of periodic points within a so-called (generalized) Pesin block, for which the periodic mean-measure deviates from the \(\mu\)-mean by more than a given \(\delta>0\). The action functional is given by some measure-theoretic entropy. The authors also prove a similar result, in which they instead adress the number of periodic measures whose Lyapunov exponents differ from those of \(\mu\) by more than \(\delta\).
