In the paper under review the authors extend the notion of amorphousness to commutative, not necessarily symmetric association schemes over the Galois rings of characteristic \(4\). They determine the first eigenmatrices of amorphous association schemes, using only the properties of Latin square type or negative Latin square type. As a corollary, they show the converse of A. V. Ivanov's theorem that association schemes from \(L_{g_ 1...g_ d}(n)\) or \(NL_{g_ 1...g_ d}(n)\) are amorphous, where \(L_{g_ 1...g_ d}(n)\) (resp. \(NL_{g_ 1...g_ d}(n)\)) is the family of symmetric association schemes, the \(i\)th association relation of which induces a strongly regular graph of Latin square type \(L_{g_ i}(n)\) (resp. negative Latin square type \(NL_{g_ i}(n)\)). In their considerations the Bannai-Muzichuk criterion for fusion schemes plays a key role. Then they collect character-theoretical results of the Galois rings of characteristic \(4\) and on the base of these facts determine the first eigenmatrices of association schemes over the Galois rings. Next they compare them with those of amorphous association schemes obtained earlier to complete the classification. Finally the authors discuss the relation to the distance-regular digraphs constructed by \textit{R. A. Leibler} and [\textit{R. A. Mena} Certain distance-regular digraphs and related rings of characteristic \(4\), J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 47, No. 1, 111-123 (1988; Zbl 0641.05022)].
