The authors prove the following result that is an extension of a theorem due to \textit{S. Grivaux} [Math. Z. 249, No. 1, 85--96 (2005; Zbl 1068.47011)]: Let \(H\) be a separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space and let \(M\) be a closed subspace of infinite co-dimension. Then every bounded linear operator \(A: M \rightarrow M\) has a chaotic extension \(T: H \rightarrow H\) such that there is a bounded linear operator \(S: H \rightarrow H\) with \(TS(x)=x\) for each \(x \in H\) and the sequences \((T^n)_n\) and \((S^n)_n\) converge pointwise to \(0\) on a dense subset of \(H\). Moreover, the norm of \(T\) can be less or equal than \(2 \max(1, \| A\|)\). The extension \(T\) can be taken even to have a hypercyclic subspace. The proof is simpler than the original one due to Grivaux. The authors observe that their result cannot be generalized for operators defined on closed subspaces of Banach spaces, as was pointed out to them by Grivaux and V.\ Müller.
