Modifying the definition of \(N\)-compactness [\textit{G. Wang}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 94, 1-23 (1983; Zbl 0512.54006)] the first one of the authors has defined the property of nearly \(N\)-compactness for \(L\)-subsets in \(L\)-(fuzzy) topological spaces [J. Math., Wuhan Univ. 16, No. 1, 67-71 (1996; Zbl 0870.54009)]. In the present paper this property is used to define two families of \(L\)-subsets in an \(L\)-topological space \((X,\tau)\), called respectively \(N\)-open and \(N\)-closed and containing respectively the families of open and closed \(L\)-sets of \((X,\tau)\). In its turn, on the basis of \(N\)-open and \(N\)-closed \(L\)-sets, the concepts of \(N\)-limit and \(N\)-cluster for fuzzy nets and fuzzy ideals are introduced. The corresponding theory of \(N\)-convergence in \(L\)-topological spaces is being developed. Relations between the new convergence and the convergence in the sense of \textit{Pu Paoming} and \textit{Liu Yingming} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 76, 571-599 (1980; Zbl 0447.54006)] are discussed.
