This paper is concerned with computation and analysis of steady Stokes flow around an axisymmetric wall depression or protuberance in pressure-driven channel flow. A general parabolic velocity profile of unidirectional two-dimensional oncoming flow including limiting cases (semi-infinite pure shear flow, semi-infinite pure parabolic flow, and semi-infinite flow with a special relation between shear rate and pressure gradient) are taken into comparative consideration. To solve this three-dimensional flow problem, the author reduces Fredholm integral equations of the first kind to a formulation only along the trace of boundaries in the meridional plane of the protuberance. A two-dimensional boundary element method is used for numerical solution of integral equations. Streamline patterns for protuberances and cavities of spherical or cylindrical shape are presented together with tabular force and torque values.
