A new approach to the algorithmic computation of the Conley index for maps is presented. It applies so called double-layer sets and maps. It enables to overcome difficulties in determining the index map caused by possible overestimates in algorithmic constructions. Some remarks on implementation of the method and comparison to the previous ones are given.
