The authors study the classification under \(\mathscr K\)-equivalence of map germs from the plane to the plane. In particular they study corank 2 unimodular map germs. They refine the classification of map germs with Boardman symbol (2,2) given by \textit{A. Dimca} and \textit{C. G. Gibson} [Q. J. Math., Oxf. II. Ser. 34, 281--295 (1983; Zbl 0537.58007)] by showing that some of the entries in their table are in fact \(\mathscr K\)-equivalent. They then compute certain invariants (the \(\mathscr K\)-codimension, the Milnor number, the number of double fold points and a number related to the degree of \(\mathscr K\)-determinacy) in order to characterize all the classes in the table. They finally implement an algorithm in Singular to determine the type of unimodular (2,2) map germ.
