The existence of a backward compact attractor is established for the process generated by a nonautonomous evolution system with an increasing and bounded absorbing set. As an application, a nonautonomous Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation on an unbounded 3D-channel is considered with the help of a standard spectrum decomposition and a cut-off technique.
