In space dimension \(d=2\), the authors consider the Schrödinger-Poisson energy \[ \mathcal E[u]:= \int_{\mathbb R^2} |\nabla u|^2 \, dx + \alpha \int_{\mathbb R^2} V |u|^2 \, dx + 2\pi \beta \int_{\mathbb R^2} W(x) |u(x)|^2 \, dx + \gamma \int_{\mathbb R^2} |u|^2 \log |u|^2\, dx, \] where \(V(x) = 2\log (1+|x|^2)\) and \(W(x) = -(2\pi)^{-1} \int_{\mathbb R^2} \log|x-y| |u^2(y)| \, dy\), as well as a corresponding free energy functional \(\mathcal F\) which contains no kinetic term \(\|\nabla u\|_2^2\). The quantities in \(\mathcal E\) turn out to all have similar scaling behavior. This paper thoroughly investigates the various logarithmic-type functional inequalities which hold between some or all of these quantities, including some new ones, in particular an interpolation inequality combining the logarithmic HLS and Sobolev inequalities. These inequalities then permit to establish the main results of this paper, which consist in various statements on boundedness, respectively unboundedness, from below of both \(\mathcal E\) and \(\mathcal F\), depending on the values of \(\alpha\), \(\beta\) and \(\gamma\).
