The authors study the boundary value problem \[ \begin{cases} &H''(\eta)-H^{p}(\eta)H'(\eta)+\frac{\eta}{2}H'(\eta)+\frac{1}{2p}H(\eta)=0, ~~~ \eta>0,\\ &H(0)=0, ~~ \lim_{\eta\to +\infty}\eta^{-\frac{1}{p}}H(\eta)=1, \end{cases} \] which appeared in the study of the modified Burgers equation. Existence and uniqueness of a non-negative monotonic solution are proved by using a shooting argument.
