Let \(\sigma(T)\), \(\sigma_p(T), \sigma_c(T), \sigma_r(T)\) and \(\sigma_e(T)\) denote the spectrum, point spectrum, continuous spectrum, residual spectrum, and essential spectrum of a bounded operator \(T\) on a separable Hilbert space \(\mathcal{H}\), respectively. In this paper, the author investigates the spectra of some dual frames multipliers giving, in particular, conditions to be at most countable, and extends the results about the spectra of Bessel multipliers with the symbol decaying to zero and of multipliers of dual Riesz bases. More precisely, the main contributions are the following: Theorem 1. Let \(\varphi\), \(\psi\) be dual frames for \(\mathcal{H}\) and \(m \in \ell^{\infty}\) a sequence with only finitely many limit points \(\left\{l_1, \ldots, l_j\right\}\). In particular, suppose that \(\mathbb{N}=\cup_{k=1}^j I_k\) and, for \(k=1, \ldots, j,\left|I_k\right|=\infty\) and \(\left\{m_n: n \in I_k\right\}\) has only \(l_k\) as limit point. Define \(m^{\prime}=\left\{m_n^{\prime}\right\}\) as \(m_n^{\prime}=l_k\) if \(n \in I_k\). Then the following statements hold. (i) \(\sigma\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) is at most countable if and only if \(\sigma\left(M_{m^{\prime}, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) is so. (ii) \(\sigma_e\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)=\sigma_e\left(M_{m^{\prime}, \varphi, \psi}\right)\). (iii) Any point of \(\sigma\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right) \backslash \sigma_e\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) is an isolated eigenvalue with finite multiplicity. (iv) The set of the limit points for \(\sigma_p\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) is contained in \(\sigma_e\left(M_{m, \varphi, \Psi}\right)\). (v) If \(\lambda \notin \sigma_e\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\), then \(\lambda\) is an eigenvalue of \(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\) if and only if \(\lambda\) is an eigenvalue of \(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}^\ast=M_{m^\ast, \psi, \varphi}\). Theorem 2. Let \(\varphi\) be a frame for \(\mathcal{H}\) with finite excess and \(\psi\) a dual frame of \(\varphi\). Let \(m \in \ell^{\infty}\) be a sequence with an at most countable set of limit points \(\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in I}\). The following statements hold. (i) \(\sigma\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) is at most countable. (ii) If \(m\) contains only a finite number of distinct elements, then \(\sigma\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) is finite and \(\sigma\left(M_{m, \phi, \psi}\right)=\sigma_p\left(M_{m, \phi, \psi}\right)\). (iii) \(\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in l} \subset \sigma\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) and \(\sigma\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right) \backslash\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in l}=\sigma_p\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right) \backslash\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in l}\). (iv) \(\sigma_r\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)=\emptyset\). (v) Each eigenvalue \(\lambda\) of \(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\) with \(\lambda \notin\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in l}\) is isolated in \(\sigma\left(M_{m, q, \psi}\right)\) and has finite multiplicity. (vi) In the case where \(\sigma\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) is infinite, if \(\lambda\) is a limit point for \(\sigma_p\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\), then \(\lambda \in\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in I}\). (vii) If \(\lambda \notin\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in I}\), then \(\lambda\) is an eigenvalue of \(M_{m, q, \psi}\) if and only if \(\bar{\lambda}\) is an eigenvalue of \(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}{ }^\ast=M_{m^\ast, \psi, \varphi}\). Suppose, in addition, that \(m\) is a real sequence with a finite set of limit points \(\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in l}\) and \(\psi\) is the canonical dual of \(\varphi\). The following statements hold. (viii) If \(m\) contains infinitely many different elements, then \(\sigma\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\) is countable and \(\left\{l_i\right\}_{i \in l}\) is the set of limit points for \(\sigma_p\left(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\right)\). In this paper, the author gives special attention to dual frames multipliers \(M_{m, \varphi, \psi}\) involving a real symbol \(m\), which is the most interesting case in applications.
