The paper studies some properties of a finite collection of randomly generated points from the rotation group \(\mathrm{SO}(3)\) of three-dimensional Euclidean space. The group \(\mathrm{SO}(3)\) is the compact Lie group of \(3\times3\) orthogonal matrices over \(\mathbb R\) that represent rotations in \({\mathbb R}^3\) (the determinant equal to one). It is a 3 dimensional manifold and since it is naturally included in \({\mathbb R}^9\); it is customary to let it inherit its Rimannian submanifold structure. A determinantal point process (dpp) is considered, with the help of which the authors obtain interesting properties of the Green and Riesz energies for \(\mathrm{SO}(3)\) group. The theory of dpp processes has been summarized in [\textit{J. B. Hough} et al., Zeros of Gaussian analytic functions and determinantal point processes. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (2009; Zbl 1190.60038)]. Note that a dpp process is a counting measure. Most work in this direction has been done on spheres of various dimensions, see the monography [\textit{S. V. Borodachov} et al., Discrete energy on rectifiable sets. New York, NY: Springer (2019; Zbl 1437.41002)]. In order to extend part of the work done on spheres to the context of rotation matrices, the authors obtain bounds on various energies for points generated through a certain dpp. The variance of rotation matrices sampled by a certain dpp is estimated.
