Let \({\mathbf A}\) be the universal Clifford algebra of the Euclidean space \(\mathbb{R}^ m\) with basis \(\{e_ 1,e_ 2,\dots,e_ m\}\). Designate the generalized Cauchy-Riemann operator acting on functions in \(\mathbb{R}^{m+1}\) as \(D:=\partial/\partial x_ 0+\sum_{i=1}^ m e_ i \partial/\partial x_ i\). One knows the method of Cauchy-Kovalewski extension for polynomials and thus the corresponding extension for real analytic functions [see \textit{F. Brackx}, \textit{R. Delanghe} and \textit{F. Sommen}, ``Clifford analysis'', Research Notes Math. 76 (1982; Zbl 0529.30001)]. The important question of determining the role of rational functions in Clifford analysis arises. This problem is addressed for rational functions \(f:\mathbb{R}^ m\to{\mathbf A}\) that have a factorization in the product of functions of the first degree. The author finds an explicit Cauchy-Kovalewski extension \(f^*:\mathbb{R}^{m+1}\to{\mathbf A}\) satisfying \(Df^*=0\). The harmonic extension of such a rational function is the real part of the Clifford valued function. The author also constructs an integral representation for \(f^*\) on a simplex in \(C^ n\).
