In this paper continued fractions \(K(-a_ n(z)/\lambda(z))\) are studied, where \(a_ n(z)\not\equiv 0\) for all \(n\in N\), \(\lambda(z)\) and \(a_ n(z)\) are holomorphic in a region \(M\subset C\) and where \(a_ n(z)\to 1/4\) uniformly on compact subsets of \(M\). Such continued fractions are known to converge to a meromorphic function \(F(z)\) on \(M^*=M\backslash S\), where \(S\) is the set of all \(z\)-values for which \(\lambda(z)\in[- 1,1]\). \(M^*\) is assumed to be \(\neq\emptyset\) throughout the whole paper. One essential result of the paper is that if for some fixed \(R_ 0>1\) \[ \sum^{\infty}_{j=1}| 1-4a_ n(z)|\cdot R^ j_ 0 \] is uniformly bounded on compact subsets of \(M\) and there is an arc \(L\subset S\) bijectively mapped onto an open subinterval of \([-1,1]\) with \(\lambda'(z)\neq 0\), then \(F\) can be meromorphically continued across \(L\) into a part, bounded by an ellipse, of the copy of \(M\) being the second sheet of the Riemann surface of \(\lambda(z)-(\lambda(z)^ 2- 1)^{{1\over 2}}\). This result extends an earlier result by the author on continued fractions \(K(-a_ n/\lambda)\). Other extensions are also proved. In certain cases explicit analytic extensions are given.
