This interesting expository paper centers on the late Frank Adams' most famous result: the non-existence of Hopf invariant one. The author casts the story in terms of the very classical problem of finding continuous solution to linear equations whose coefficients are not constant. He describes the main corollaries and even gives some elements of the proof using a simple version of his own.
