The linear operator pencil \(L(\lambda)=\lambda P-N\) is considered, where \(P\) and \(N\) are differential operators of order \(n\) and \(p\), respectively, acting in a Banach or Hilbert space. The boundary problems for ordinary differential equations with (nonlinearly) \(\lambda\)-dependent boundary conditions can be reduced to this form. The operator \(P\) is not supposed to be invertible. The minimality, completeness and Riesz basis properties of eigenvectors and associated eigenvectors are studied by use of asymptotic analysis of Green's function of a linearized version of the problem. An application to a problem from elasticity theory is given.
