Let \(A\) be a squarefree odd integer with \(A>1\), and denote by \(h\) the class number of \(\mathbb{Q} (\sqrt{-A})\). Suppose that \(n>2\) is an odd integer with \(\text{gcd} (n,h)=1\) and \(m>1\). In this paper it is proved that the equation \(Ax^2+ 2^{2m}= y^n\) has no solutions in positive integers \(x\) and \(y\) if \(n\) has a prime factor which is \(\equiv 1\bmod 4\). In this case there exists at most one solution with \(x,y\) odd. The case \(n=3\) is completely solved. Further, the author improves and generalizes a result of E. Brown for \(A=3\).
