In [\textit{D. Jerison} and \textit{J. M. Lee}, The Yamabe problem on CR manifolds, J. Differ. Geom. 25, 167-197 (1987; Zbl 0661.32026)] the authors considered the analogue of the Yamabe problem of Riemannian geometry for CR manifolds. The problem is to deform conformally a pseudo-Hermitian structure on a CR manifold \((M^{2n+1},\theta)\) to one with constant Webster scalar curvature. They solved the problem [see also \textit{D. Jerison} and \textit{J. M. Lee}, J. Differ. Geom. 29, No. 2, 303-343 (1989; Zbl 0671.32016)] for \(n\geq 2\) and \((M,\theta)\) not locally CR equivalent to the sphere \(S^{2n+1}\) of \({\mathbb C}^n\). In the paper under review, the author studies the case \(n=1\). The case when \((M,\theta)\) is locally CR equivalent to the sphere \(S^{2n+1}\) has also been studied by the author in a joint paper with \textit{R. Yacoub} [CR Yamabe conjecture. The case conformally flat, Pac. J. Math. (to appear)]. That completes the solution of the CR Yamabe conjecture for all dimensions.
