In the paper the fast Lyapunov indicator (short time numerical approximation of the largest Lyapunov characteristic exponent) is used to distinguish different types of motions in dynamical systems generated by the standard map and its multidimensional generalizations. Using this indicator, the authors present an example of the Arnold web detected in 4 and 6 dimensional symplectic maps. The method can be also used to detect the transition of a system between a stable Nekhoroshev-like and diffusive Chirikov-type regime.
