Convergence of associated continued fractions revised (Q5946228)

In this nicely written paper, the authors bring together alternate proofs of many famous theorems concerning the convergence of the associated continued fraction \[ 1\over\displaystyle \lambda-b_1 -{\strut a_1^2\over \displaystyle \lambda-b_2 -{\strut a_2^2\over \displaystyle \lambda-b_3 - \cdots}}. \] The \(\{a_n\}\) and \(\{b_n\}\) are real sequences with \(a_n>0\). The proofs approach the problems on hand from the viewpoint of the corresponding symmetric tridiagonal matrix \(T\) \[ T=\begin{pmatrix} b_1 & a_1 & & \\ a_1 & b_2 & a_2 & \\ & \ddots & \ddots & \ddots\end{pmatrix} \] and its resolvent \((\lambda-T)^{-1}\).
