There are considered generalized (entropy) solutions of the parabolic equation: \[ \frac{\partial u}{\partial t} - \sum^n_{i=1} \frac{\partial}{\partial x_i} \left(a_i(u) \frac{\partial u}{\partial x_i}\right) + \sum^n_{i=1} \frac{\partial}{\partial x_i} b_i(u) = 0,\quad a_i(u) \geq 0, \] in the strip \(Q_T = \{(t,x) : x\in \mathbb{R}^n\), \( 0<t<T\}\). It is proved that an arbitrary function \(u(t,x),\) satisfying the conditions: i) \(u\in B V_{\text{loc}} (Q_T)\cap L^\infty_{\text{loc}} (Q_T),\) \((BV\) is the space of functions whose generalized derivatives are measures); ii) the generalized derivatives \(\frac{\partial}{\partial x_i} A_i(u(t,x)) (A_i(u) \equiv \int^n_0 a_i(s) ds)\), belong to \(L^1_{\text{loc}}(Q_T)\); iii) the second generalized derivatives \(\frac{\partial^2}{\partial x_i^2} A_i(u(t,x))\), locally are measures; is a generalized (entropy) solution if and only if it is a weak solution and satisfies a corresponding discontinuity condition. Uniqueness and stability of the generalized solution of the Cauchy problem is proved.
