The authors provide a-priori \(L^\infty\) bounds for positive solutions to the boundary value problem \( - \Delta u = f(u)\) in \(\Omega\), \(u = 0\) on \(\partial \Omega\) where \(\Omega\) is a bounded domain of class \(C^2\) in \(\mathbb R^N\) and \(f\) is a subcritical nonlinearity. The importance of this result lies in the fact that a priori \(L^\infty\) bounds for positive solutions provide a great deal of information on the existence/non-existence of solutions when it is combined with degree theory for compact maps.
