The subject of the paper is the adaptive control problem for a class of systems governed by differential equations with unknown nonlinearities. Motivated by the modified Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model, the author propose a linear fuzzy identifier the behavior of which is close to that of the uncontrolled nonlinear plant. Using this fuzzy identifier, a controller is proposed with help of which the plant output is forced to track a certain desired trajectory. Since the parameters of the proposed identifier are unknown, a suitable objective function is introduced and a set of necessary conditions is developed with help of which the unknown parameters can be determined. Based on these necessary conditions, a numerical scheme is presented for computing the unknowns. The robustness of the proposed estimator and the corresponding controller is studied to evaluate the effectiveness of the controller under the variations of plant parameters. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the quality of the proposed adaptive control scheme.
