Let \(G\) be a group and \(\mathcal F\) a family of subgroups that is closed under conjugation and taking subgroups. The \(K\)-theoretic Farrel-Jones conjecture for the group \(G\) with respect to \(\mathcal F\) says that for any additive \(G\)-category \({\mathcal A}\) the assembly map: \[ H_{n}^{G}(E_{\mathcal F}(G); \mathbb{K}_{\mathcal A}) \rightarrow H_{n}^{G}(\text{pt}; \mathbb{K}_{\mathcal A}) \] induced by the projection \(E_{\mathcal F}(G)\rightarrow \text{pt}\) is bijective for all \(n\in {\mathbb Z}\). \(E_{\mathcal F}(G)\) denotes here a classifying space for a family \(\mathcal F\) (cf. [\textit{W. Lück}, Progr. Math. 248, 269--322 (2005; Zbl 1117.55013)]). The corresponding statement for the \(L\)-theory is similar but \(\mathcal A\) is now any additive \(G\)-category with involution. Then \(G\) satisfies the Farrell-Jones conjecture with respect to \({\mathcal F}\) if the assembly map \[ H_{n}^{G}(E_{\mathcal F}(G); \mathbb{L}_{\mathcal A}^{(-{\infty})}) \rightarrow H_{n}^{G}(\text{pt}; \mathbb{L}_{\mathcal A}^{(-{\infty})}) \] is bijective for all \(n\in {\mathbb Z}\). The authors prove the \(K\)-theoretic and \(L\)-theoretic Farrell-Jones conjecture for \(G=\text{GL}_{n}({\mathbb Z})\).
