Let \(P\) be a finite \(p\)-group with cyclic \(P'\), let \(\mathcal A_p(P)\) be the poset of all nontrivial elementary Abelian subgroups of \(P\) and let \(\mathcal A_p(P)_{\geq 2}=\{E\in\mathcal A_p(P)\mid |E|\geq p^2\}\). It was proved by \textit{S. Bouc} and \textit{J. Thévenaz}, [``The poset of elementary Abelian subgroups of rank at least \(2\)'', Monogr. Enseign. Math. 40, 41--45 (2008)] that \(\mathcal A_p(P)_{\geq 2}\) has the homotopy type of a wedge of spheres (of possible different dimensions). The general objective of this paper is to obtain more refined information on the homotopy types of the above defined posets. Reviewer's note: One may assume without loss of generality that \(P=\Omega_1(P)\). If \(p>2\), then \(P\) is regular in P. Hall's sense so it is of exponent \(p\). In that case, \(G=E_1\times E_2\), where \(E_1\) is either \(\{1\}\) or extraspecial and \(E_2\) is Abelian of exponent \(\leq p\). For \(p=2\), the situation is more complicated.
