This work is devoted to the limit cycle problem for the general Liénard polynomial system \[ \dot{x}=y, \;\dot{y}=-x(1+\beta_1 x + \dotsc + \beta_{2l} x^{2l})+y(\alpha_0+\alpha_1 x + \dotsc+ \alpha_{2k} x^{2k}) \] with an arbitrary (but finite) number of singular points. The main theorem of the paper claims that such a system can have at most \(k+l\) limit cycles, \(k\) surrounding the origin and \(l\) surrounding one by one the other singularities. The author applies the theory of the rotating vector fields and uses geometric properties of the spirals filling the interior and exterior domains of limit cycles. But his claim contradicts results from many published papers (for example, [\textit{L. A. Cherkas} and \textit{I. N. Sidorenko}, Differ. Equ. 44, No. 2, 226--230 (2008); translation from Differ. Uravn. 44, No. 2, 217--221 (2008; Zbl 1364.34036); \textit{C. Christopher} and \textit{S. Lynch}, Nonlinearity 12, No. 4, 1099--1112 (1999; Zbl 1074.34522); \textit{J. Yang} et al., J. Math. Anal. Appl. 366, No. 1, 242--255 (2010; Zbl 1200.34036)]).
