The paper is devoted to Liénard system \[ \dot{x}=y- F(x), \quad \dot{y}=-g(x) \] under the condition that \(F(x)\) and \(g(x)\) are odd functions. In the case when this system has a unique limit cycle, the authors develop a method providing upper and lower bounds for the amplitude of such limit cycle. The key idea of this method is to construct two series of special functions. By applying the mentioned approach it is proved that the amplitude \(A(\mu)\) of the unique limit cycle of the well-known van der Pol system \[ \dot{x}=y- \mu(x^3/3-x), \quad \dot{y}=-x \] satisfies to following bounds: \(A(\mu)<2.0976\) for any \(\mu>0\) and \(A(\mu)>2\) for \(\mu=1, 2\). Derived bounds improve existing results.
