\textit{S.-T. Yau} proved his global gradient estimate for harmonic functions on a complete Riemannian manifold with Ricci curvature bounded below [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 28, 201--228 (1975; Zbl 0291.31002)], and later, in a joint paper with \textit{S. Y. Cheng}, a local gradient estimate [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 28, 333--354 (1975; Zbl 0312.53031)]. \textit{H. Zhang} and \textit{X. Zhu} [Acta Math. Sci., Ser. B, Engl. Ed. 30, No. 6, 1949--1974 (2010; Zbl 1240.53073)] introduced a geometric analogue of lower Ricci curvature bound \(\mathrm{Ric} \geq -K\) (\(K\geq 0\)) for Aleksandrov spaces (of curvature bounded below) and proved the following theorem [J. Differ. Geom. 91, No. 3, 445--522 (2012; Zbl 1258.53075)]: If \(X\) is an \(n\)-dimensional Aleksandrov space with \(\mathrm{Ric} \geq -K\) (\(K\geq 0\)), and \(\Omega \) is a bounded domain in \(X\), then for every positive harmonic function \(u\) on a geodesic ball \(B_{2R}\subseteq \Omega \), the following local gradient estimate holds: \(\left| \nabla u\right| /u\leq C\left( 1+\sqrt{K}R\right) R^{-1}\) in the geodesic ball \( B_{R}\) (\(R>0\)), where the constant \(C=C\left( n,\sqrt{K}\mathrm{diam}\left( \Omega \right) \right) \) depends on \(n\) and \(\sqrt{K}\mathrm{diam}\left( \Omega \right) \) if \(K>0\) and it depends only on \(n\) if \(K=0\). The main result of the paper under review states that for positive \(K\) it is possible to select \(C\) depending only on \(n\).
