Scattered data interpolation schemes frequently require gradients at the data sites although only positional information is provided. This paper discusses several methods to extract derivative information from the given data. These methods are: 1. Shepard's surface; 2. least squares planes; 3. least squares quadratic; 4. triangular Shepard surface. All methods are compared to each other.
