The author studies topological properties of conformally invariant compact extensions of a plane domain. First he constructs a nonmetrizable, conformally invariant, compact extension \(b_*D\) which satisfies the first countability axiom, where D is a simply connected plane domain, conformally equivalent to a disk. The construction answers positively the following question which was raised by \textit{A. D. Myshkis} and \textit{G. D. Suvorov} [Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 212, 822-824 (1973; Zbl 0294.30025)]. Is there a conformally invariant extension, different from the one-point extension and from the Carathéodory extension, such that each of its points has a basis of connected sets?. Further, the author studies \(b_*D\) in detail when D is the unit disk, and describes the structure of the boundary of \(b_*D\), in particular, the fundamental systems of neighborhoods of the boundary elements of \(b_*D\).
