Let M be a compact, six real-dimensional Kähler manifold. It is shown that, if the sectional curvature of M is nonnegative (resp., nonpositive), then the Euler characteristic of M is also nonnegative (resp., nonpositive), verifying a classical conjecture of H. Hopf for this class of manifolds. The methods used are entirely pointwise; that is, the Gauss-Bonnet integrand is shown to be of the appropriate sign at each point of the manifold.
